About

Castle Street, Ballycastle

The site is located adjacent to the conservation area in Ballycastle so the overall design had to respect this heritage. The site also fell dramatically to the rear. This allowed the building fronting onto Castle Street to be single storey whilst the rear is two storeys over a partial basement. The retail floor appears spacious as the ceiling level follows the mono-pitched roof. Curved metal profiles conceal the steel columns as well as the roller shutters along the Castle Street elevation. Deliveries where previously accommodated on the forecourt. By stepping the building with the natural fall of the ground, deliveries are now catered for off the existing public carpark to the rear of the building, with level access and a goods lift to first floor storage thus maximizing a very restrictive site.
